OWSI and EFR instructor

At sixteen Mark Ferguson had his first experience of wearing SCUBA gear,
but was promptly told he would have to wait until eighteen until he could
actually dive. So in 1986 in -2oc air temperature and 4oc
water temperature, wearing only an 8mm semi dry, he completed dive number one in
his log book in the waters of Stony Cove in the United Kingdom. He hasn’t looked
back since. After spending ten years diving in various areas as diverse as
Scotland to the Bahamas, he decided to move to Hong Kong under the pretense of
working for one year in his firms local office, but with the firm intention to
dive Asia!
After twelve years in Asia and after various career changes
he is now settled as a Secondary School Biology Teacher with a firm belief in
not only sharing his diving skills with others, but also that he should
encourage through diving an awareness and passion for the marine environment. He
has spent much of his time working with his school and others to promote reef
protection in Hong Kong with the help of Mandarin Divers and Bloom - a local
marine conservation organisation. He has also led many trips around Asia, which
have introduced others to the wonders and importance of the marine environment.
Along the way he has had some amazing experiences and has immersed himself in
all areas of diving.
