Growing up less than a kilometre from the forest, Marcel has always been active in the outdoors and enjoys activities like hiking, trail running and mountain biking. Marcel started diving in Holland and completed his first open water course in 1993. A passion for the underwater world was born. From there it was diving in lakes, quarries, sea and rivers across Holland, Germany, Belgium, France, Serbia, Slovenia as well as Malta for his first 200 dives.

After finishing his Dive Master course, he spent 2 months in Malta gaining experience in all areas of Dive Mastering, as well as being trained as Assistant Instructor. From there it was past the point of no return.

1998 saw Marcel travel to Thailand to complete his Instructor Development Course. He started a dive centre in Viet Nam, in addition to working and managing dive centres in the Philippines. Since then he has been diving numerous places in Asia, the Philippines (Boracay, Cebu, Coron), Indonesia (Pulau Weh, Bali, Papua), Malaysia (Sipadan) as well as a super dive safari in Egypt.

Being a diving instructor is an ideal way to combine a number of his interests and passions like working with people, travel, exploring underwater world, conservation and photography. Some of his diving highlights include ice diving in the Netherlands, diving the wrecks in Coron, diving with Whale sharks in Papua, Indonesia.

Through teaching he wants to introduce more people to the underwater world and help them understand it as well.
